Chinese BBQ sauce is known for its unique taste, but some people claim it has an extra-special taste for the meat that’s been charred.
If you’re craving a delicious BBQ sauce for dinner or for the barbecue smoker, this Chinese barbecue sauce recipe will blow your mind.
[Image by The Food Lab] The basic recipe is to mix 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon sugar, 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper, 1 teaspoon ground cumin, 1 teaspoons salt, and 1 teaspoon brown sugar in a saucepan.
When the sauce is boiling, add in a bit of water.
Once the sauce boils, add 1 tablespoon more soy sauce and cook for 10 minutes, stirring frequently.
Add 1/4 teaspoon each ground cinchona pepper and ground ginger, and stir.
Continue cooking for a few more minutes.
This sauce will keep in the refrigerator for up to three days, which is the reason we call it “Chinese barbecue sauce.”
It tastes just like a BBQ sauce, but we also recommend adding a bit more soy in the sauce.
You can make this recipe at home, but the recipe is best made at home with your food processor.
When it’s ready to serve, you can take the sauce out of the saucepan and stir it into the meat with your fingers.
You’ll need to do this for a couple of minutes, then add a bit to the sauce for flavor.
This will give it a nice, crisp, charred look, and it’ll keep in a fridge for up of three days.
